Routines
SPELLING:
Students will be given a spelling list at the beginning of the week. The spelling list will consist of words that all focus on specific letter sounds or spelling rules. A test will be given at the end of the week. We will also be working on how to use the words in context by writing sentences and understanding the words' meanings.
SILENT READING:
At the beginning of the day's language arts lessons, students are to read silently for 5 minutes. They can read whatever they like as long as it is in English. At this time, students are not to talk, ask questions, or share books. This is a silent reading session and is to start as soon as students are in their desks.
QUIZ TIME:
Every day we will have a quiz time. This will be questions asked at random to review concepts we have studied, to reinforce ideas being learned, and to test general knowledge.

Classroom Rules
The rules for when in the classroom, walking to and in the library, or anywhere within the school will all follow the English department's policy of encouraging the students to be "Respectful", "Awareness", and "Responsible". The following are rules that have been set for my classes:
1. Always try your best. It is okay if you don't get everything correct as long as you try!
2. Help others. We all need help sometimes.
3. Be kind to others and to yourself.
4. Use English whenever you can.
5. Do your homework.
6. Bring all of your materials to class.
7. Use an inside voice when in the classroom.
8. Listen, don't talk, when someone else is speaking.
